I just got dreads last saturday. They looked awesome for the first two days but now they are getting super fuzzy (as in a huge amount of loose hairs) at the roots. In the middle of the dread they are locking pretty well, but then again on the ends they are falling out.
I have been palmrolling madly but it doesnt seem to help since they are so thin.
I have noticed that some people try "crocheting" them, but I have no idea what that is.
Any tips on getting rid of the loose hairs? I hear wax isn't good and I've only used it once. Does Lock Peppa work at all?

Mon, November 24, 2008 - 10:12 PMLock peppa is freaking amazing for dread balling.
Be patient. You head will look like hell for the first year. Mine are at 1.5 years and are still pretty fuzzy (but um...I could stand to do more work on them) You are going to see crazy massive changes for the first three months. If parts are falling out, backcomb them more and maybe rubberband them for a while and let them set.
Wax is not your friend. It does the opposite of what you want.

Re: bad case of the fuzzies...
Sun, January 11, 2009 - 5:28 PMthey are falling out once again... i can't seem to keep them in which is crazy because i have really curly hair that seems like it would stay put. but what do i know.
Anywayss. it seems like at least a little wax would help? crocheting did not really work out either because i have thin hair which = thin dreads. but i put rubber bands at the bases which seemed to help, except that they have theses curvy bumps in them.
will backcoming loosen them or will it work to keep them tight? i feel like wax keeps in the loose hair, but everyone says its bad so i'm torn.

Sat, January 24, 2009 - 5:04 PMCheck your local health food store for an all natural shampoo bar with saponified oils; avoid anything with SLS/SLES.

Re: bad case of the fuzzies...
Mon, January 19, 2009 - 11:26 PMalso for more "locked" locs i find that trimming really helps me keep my locks looking new. Just cutting the crazy fuzz off and keeping the locked hair looking more trim helps a ton! -

Re: bad case of the fuzzies...
Sun, January 25, 2009 - 12:57 AMwhoa whoa whoa... DO NOT TRIM YOUR LOOSE HAIRS!!!!!! When you trim your loose hairs as the get loose, they NEVER lock into the roots, then you have more loose hairs and you trim those... eventually your roots become thin and weak and your locks WILL break off. I know this from experience. There are lots of ways of locking the loose hair into the roots, what i find usefull is to simply twist and twist the loosies until they cant be twisted anymore because the kindof twist into a little ball (different that "dread balling" because it "balls" from the bottom instead of the top) then shoving it into the root. When it untwists inside the root it wraps itself around the inside of the roots and holds tightly. Like i said, there are a bunch of other ways to get the same results, just dont cut them. -

Cheers.
