Wet Dreadlocks

this may seem like a stupid question but I want to know about drying dreadlocks. I have read that dreadlocks smell when moisture is trapped inside (eg. people who wax their dreads when they are still wet/damp) but will my hair smell if i allow it to dry naturally in its own time during the day. I am trying the all natural approach with no waxes or bought products. But should I be worried that my hair is staying wet/damp for too long? Would it be better to dry immediately with a hair dryer? My dreads are only short and on the thin side but i just dont want dog-smelling dreads.

take your time drying, if you like... just make sure that they can breathe stll... no tying them back or covering them till they are completely dry...

Using a hair dryer will probably end up hurting your hair...remember your dreads are probably a bit on the dry side since you are using conditioner anymore.
Nothing wrong with the natural method at all. Just do as Shawn said, let them breathe.

Also I got a micro fiber towel that helps to wick the moisture out and they dry faster.

The mold issue would be a real problem if they took ages to dry and you had really big thick, chunky locks...as they'd be damp much longer...I too have smallish locks, and in winter, I can wash in the morning, and go to bed with still some hints of dampness deep within...and have never ever had an issue with mold of smelliness...and that's counting-in over 5 years of Dreads adding all the time together (on my 3rd set now)...you'll be fine... :)

Try a natural tea tree oil shampoo...the antibacterial qualities help to prevent mustiness and prevent mildew from the length of time it takes dreads to dry...my fiance was using one before he just recently went dreadie bye-bye...and his hair is amazingly thick!!! Worked quite well...:-)
