My boyfriend has long hair, (about half way down his back) which is matted by neglect method. He simply stopped doing anything to his hair about 6 years ago. As a result, the dreads are all different sizes and were only locked for a couple of inches mid-length although these locks are really tight and mature (also very irregularly shaped). The roots were unlocked up to about 3 or 4 inches and so were the ends, I convinced him to let me do stuff to them and I started back combing the ends and looping the roots through themselves, but this seems to have made it so so so much worse, the roots are all up in the air so my poor baby looks like he has a birds nest on top of his head! and the ends are starting to unravel again, he refuses to go see a loctician or to do anything to them himself even though he seems to be happy to let me deal with them, I have lots of patience, but can someone please PLEASE PLEASE tell me what to do? both in terms of how to fix them and how to maintain them healthily (he's also having serious dandruff problems)
If anyone can offer me ANY advice I would be eternally grateful
Thanks... C

Re: HELP dread angels!!!! neglect method dreaddies gonne SEVERELY wrong!!!
Sun, July 5, 2009 - 8:28 PMhate to say it, but my opinion would be to cut them off. salvage what length you can. fix the dandruff prob then start over. knottyboy and dreadhead websites give very detailed instructions.
from what you described i think it would be very very hard to get them looking orderly. you are willing to help him with his hair so convince him to let you start them over so they can look fabulous ! -

Re: HELP dread angels!!!! neglect method dreaddies gonne SEVERELY wrong!!!
Sun, July 5, 2009 - 8:42 PMi hear ya. he has to live with it on his head but you are the one who has to look at and sleep nest to him, hehe. take a look at the gallery photos on knottyboy with him maybe seeing who great they could look would help him decide to start over. i doubt he would have to cut it all off. you could prolly cut half the length and brush out the rest. patiently.
good luck

Mon, July 6, 2009 - 4:47 AMDefinitely post pictures.
Off the cuff, though, I'd say don;t worry about it. If he's happy with his dreads as they are, why are you concerned that they aren't locked end to end or different sizes? -
