hey so i am a newbie to dreads and have read a whole load of threads on here.
I just had my dreads put 5 days ago my hair is about 8 to 10 inches long and the dreads are as thick as my little finger, before my hair was dreaded it was natural frizzy and if left for a week i could not get a hair brush though it. anyway i am very confused i do not now if the girl who did my dreads did them right ( sounds like common problems that i am having) the roots do not seem very tight ( more than an inch)and when they did them they used a lot of bees wax but they look good but hate the wax feel

I really want to have great looking dreads but I am worried when i wash them they will fall apart with no wax. I want to wash them tomorrow and get rid of all the waz, i have bought apple cider vinger and plan to soak them in that and then wash them in real hot water with plain soap. rapped in the end of a tight.

then i was planning to use a sea salt and lemon juice mix to lock the dreads up along with clockwise rolling and parm rolling?

am i on the right track?
cheers antony

  • Hi Antony :)

ARRGHHH why do people insist on bloody wax! arghh! You're right to get it out asap, as it's only gonna hinder your dreads matting-up...

Since your dreads are only 5 days old, it's perfectly natural that they're not too tight yet, and that the roots aren't well-dreaded, that stuff takes time and patience, and effort...Your plan sounds good...you will also find that the rip and pull method will work WONDERS for locking-up your dreads...and if your dreads fall apart when you get the wax out (which is kinda unlikely, but not impossible)...this will give you a great opportunity to get someonebody who knows what they're doing to create your dreads...every time I've done them, I've backcombed the hell outta them, and THEN used the rip and pull method to really get em knotted...
