OK - it's a myth that you gotta wait months and months before washing the first time. Oily hair don't dread properly (if at all). You gotta keep baby locks clean and free from residues...which leads to my next question - what are you washing with at the moment? I've tried the Baking Soda but it actually de-matts some of my roots, which is very frustrating, but it works great for others (you combine baking soda with water to form a paste - or a liquid if you wish - some use Apple cider vinegar in the mix too). I prefer dreadhead HQ Shampoo, gives me great knots, as I have naturally oily hair, it really dries it out and gets it matting, but not so dry that it causes any breakage. The length of time between a wash and oiliness will get longer as you wash less - although this is frustrating in the early stages, it will pass...and then you wash when your hair and scalp tell you to.
