ok fuck it i give up. i took a shower and my shit is fucked, its horrible and I want to cry. i am so pissed at my friend for half assing this attempt at dreads she has done this twice. every time i tried to tell her "you need to back comb the roots more" or "you need to back comb it more before just twisting it with wax and palm rolling" she would just tell me to shut up and stop complaining and be glad she is doing anything at all and just be a total bitch about it, its not her head its mine and im the one that has to live with the after effects of not putting enough effort into it. all ive wanted for 3 years is a head of thick dreads and this time i thought "hey third times a charm" but it was worse than the second time. it cannot be repaired it cannot be fixed it would just have to be redone. does anybody know a good professional dreader in the seattle area?

Don't give up.....if you really want them! No wax.....no good for your hair! Your always gonna have straight hair growth between your scalp and locks....do you twist them down? How often? What rituals/habits did/do you do? I live Ptown, maybe I can help out!

No dreadie problem is unfixable Alex. I don't understand why people pretend they know what they are doing when they really don't..I guess you got it right, it's not their head they gotta worry about GRRR....

Baby dreads look HORRIBLE straight after washing...and I'm not suprised you feel disheartened...exactly what's going on? Are they coming apart? If so, all you'd need to do, is use your fingers to gently pull them mostly apart again, and you can re-backcomb, and USE THE RIP N PULL METHOD...by FAR the best method for creating knots!

well i know they are'nt instant and they take work, but the back combing also has to be done right. this isnt really a convient time for me to be having baby dreads ne way. i need to get a new job and that can prove difficult with new dreads, ive started combing them out. maby another time :-(

      Aww, that's a shame...but it's understandable if you're looking for a new job...some people just don't understand dreads...stupid people! *kick*

If you decide to try again, find someone that will take the time and effort to do them right...come back here and find out what should and shouldn't be done and it should work out much better for you!

Wish I could help you, dude...I've noticed the HUGE amount that people want for doing proper dreads, too...I'd do them for a whole lot less, but that doesn't help you, considering I'm on the East coast and you're on the West. I've got plans to be a dreadie queen once I get back to Oz...the same issue over there for alot of folks...alot of demand and not enough supply without having to pay a fortune!

Yes it would be great if we all lived closer to each other. I think we should all move down near Beksta *jokes*. It sucks being the only one in a country town with dreadlocks :( And I know how much they like to charge at salons, for such simple work.

Fair warning...you ever go to Oz, you'll never want to leave...all my time is taken up trying to get back...I miss my sweety, I miss my home, I miss my friends...*sigh*...it sucks!

I think the problem with the prices on dreads is that it's not such hard work, but it is tedious and time consuming, especially if you're putting in a fresh set on someone with really long hair...mine is gonna be quite a task...which is part of the reason I'm waiting till I get back home to get it done...plenty of people there that know what they're doing and if you head out to one of the festivals, they do it for fun...just kick back, get happy and get dreaded!!! Woohooooo!!!

louis-i think the universe is trying to tell you that you should just do them yourself. i did mine , its not that hard and that way you know exactly how much backcombing happened and how they feel. just have some one help section, tie those off with a rubber band then do it all your self. mine was done over the course of about 2 1/2 days. but yours is short so it wouldnt be that much time at all =)
