Hey Dreadheads,

My hair has grown out again and I would some help backcombing it.
My friends just keep putting it off. So if anyone can help me out thats
on the westside of LA, let me know. Or if you a place to get them done
please share. Of course, I'll give you some compensation for it.

Peace,
Stefan

Back combing is the same thing as teasing...and in the case of doing dreads, you'd call it 'ratting'...it's just done much tighter than your usual teasing/back combing method...

I'm pretty much in the same boat...seems to be no one around here that knows how to do proper dreads...seems the consensus is to either let your hair get really dirty and just start twisting pieces together...(ewwwwww)...or add lots and lots of wax...(more ewwwwwww)...

Looks like I'm gonna have to wait till I get back to Oz to have mine done...*sigh*

Alright well we could have a "dreading party!" Hahaha

Or there is this place in Los Feliz called "Purple Circle"
www.purple-circle.com/ - Seems legit but kinda expensive.
Although getting dreadlocks means you will never have to pay for
another hair cut ever again, if they do it right.

Getting someone to do dreads that truly knows what they are doing is VERY expensive...most people will charge anywhere from $60. to $75 hr...it's a very tedious and time consuming endeavor...and actually, it's a good idea to trim off a bit from the ends, occasionally...dreads do start to deteriorate with the pressure and abuse that they take...trimming the ends gives a new, more blunt end to give them a healthier appearance...you just palm roll the heck out of them once it's trimmed, so that it doesn't start to unravel...

This from a gorgeous black lady that has the most kickin' set of dreads I've ever seen...and she is in agreement of no wax or additives...just wish she didn't live so far away, or I'd get her to do mine...:-(

    *shrugs*
I backcombed my own dreads in...
It's rather time-consuming and your arms hurt after a bit, but if you are patient it's definitely do-able.

I recommend having someone help you section out your hair, though. Otherwise you can end up with really different shapes and sizes, unless that's what you're going for.

    good luck!

Ye, it might be doable with shorter hair...mine, on the other hand, is below my bra strap, so I'd end up getting so frustrated that I'd likely end up just pulling it all out...*giggle*

Yeah, I'm kinda picky though haha.
I doubt they would turn out that neat if I did it myself.
Although it probably wouldn't take too long for my
    hair length.

I've done 2 of my ow sets too, It's easy as, and mine are neat! Just takes a little patience and determination, but you can def do you own...although I'd recommend getting someone else to section your dreads, but the actual backcombing? easy to do yourself :)

    Alright, cool this weekend hopefully.
Now about sectioning, I read you had
a diamond pattern going? Thats cool
seems like a pretty natural look, I guess.
I'd like them to be on the thicker side.
    Sooo one inch sections?

yeah one inch would give nice-sized dreads, although you could even have a few that are a little bigger or smaller...i love that look....different sized dreads, looks so less 'forced' if you get me LOL

      Good luck! :D xx
